This is part of Sounding the Alarm: Theories of the Anti-sight II. Curated by Panoply Performance Lab Lab for Month of Performance Art Berlin
I am Breathing, Video still. (2015)
This live performance continues my exploration of tensions between the experiential and the spectacular body - states of inhabiting the body, and being an image - as an on-going concern of my practice. Through focus on, and manipulation of the act of breathing this piece seeks to call attention to the experience of being in the performing body. These concepts will be further developed in response to the dynamics of the site, and the curatorial frame of this exhibition, which seeks to challenge the dominance of sight.
This piece has existed as both a live performance at Dublin Live Art Festival (2014), a performance to camera: 'anti-sight' piece
About Sounding the Alarm: Theories of the Anti-sight II
Performance artists, conceptual social workers, and performance-based spiritualists and scientists attempt to break through the sound barrier of cultural imperialism, violence, and hegemony. Doubting the fundamental conception that "seeing is believing" within a reality where forms of sight and what is seen are dominated by capitalist agendas, we develop sonic, sensual, and social interactions, disruptions, resistances, and reifications.
